Evening Bags

The first time I visited Japan in the 1960’s I was intrigued with the ceremonial brocades used for traditional crafts. After I opened my shop on Madison Avenue I remembered these brocades and on my next trip to Japan began collecting these geometric fabrics. With these patterns in mind, I designed an envelope shaped evening bag using fabrics which are woven with metallic threads. It made for a distinctive evening bag. My way of using a traditional material, in a modern form. These bags became prized possessions by women on the forefront of fashion. Now, decades later, they have become collectibles.
